2017 School Tools Drive Success

IMG_7415Mahalo to everyone who showed up on Saturday to support KITV’s 2017 School Tools drive, a benefit for Ready to Learn! Supporters donated $6,035.98 and nine pallets of assorted school supplies! Collectively, these contributions will assemble approximately 2,600 basic school supply kits for keiki who cannot afford them.

We saw unprecedented support from the public as well as from volunteers and community partners. It was incredibly heartening to see everyone rally behind a worthy cause that continues the legacy passed on to us by the late Senator Daniel Inouye and his wife Maggie. People from different professions, industries and walks of life gathered to ensure that Hawaii’s keiki have the tools to start the school year on the right foot.

DSC_0129Households in challenging financial circumstances are often forced to make the impossible choice between providing their family with food and shelter and delivering other essentials, like school supplies for their children. As a result of your support this past weekend, many families do not have to make that choice, and children will go to school with brand new school supplies.

On behalf of Helping Hands Hawaii and the thousands of families who are strengthened by your donations, thank you for your generosity! By supporting the education of Hawaii’s children, your gifts have the potential to continue giving for decades through more empowered students who go forth and affect positive changes in the world. Thank you for continuing to serve in our mission to uplift our community and inspiring others to do the same!
