Are you looking for a way to give back to your community during the holidays? Give the gift of hope to families and individuals in need through the Adopt A Family program (AAF)!
AAF is a seasonal program that connects individuals and families in need with donors in the community during the holidays. These donors uplift and inspire struggling households during a time of year when their homelessness, poverty, disability and other life challenges can seem overwhelming. Donors make a difference by purchasing much-needed items to fulfill the household’s holiday Wish List. Often, the requested items include new clothing and footwear, household goods and other basic necessities.
The program’s goal is to make sure each and every household is adopted and to distribute their gifts before Christmas. Through the kindness of donors, the program has maintained a 100 percent adoption rate every year!
If you are interested in becoming an Adopt A Family donor, submit an AAF Donor Information Form to AAF@helpinghandshawaii.org. The process of matching donors and families will begin in November, and the deadline for donors to drop off their Wish List gifts is Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016.
Wish List items are being collected at our Community Clearinghouse, which is located at 2100 N. Nimitz Hwy. It is open on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with extended hours through 6:30 p.m. from Dec. 5 through Dec. 9. Additionally, it will be open on Saturday (Nov. 26, Dec. 3 and Dec 10) from 8 a.m. to Noon.
Note: The Adopt A Family program consumer application and referral period is closed. Consumers seeking holiday assistance may contact AAF@helpinghandshawaii.org to be placed on the Wait List. Placement on the Wait List does not guarantee assistance. If assistance is available after all AAF families have been adopted, households will be contacted in the order that they were received on the Wait List.
