Every year the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and First Hawaiian Bank encourage members of the community to make a difference with a gift to the Good Neighbor Fund (GNF). The GNF is administered by Helping Hands Hawaii and is used throughout the year to help those who face difficulties in their lives. This partnership has given us the opportunity to help so many people improve their quality of life and get back on their feet.
Each contribution to the GNF is incredibly valuable and helps to offset expenses that are necessary to provide life-changing programs to our consumers. The GNF supports Adopt A Family, our holiday initiative to uplift households who are experiencing homelessness, financial struggles, medical hardships, unemployment or other challenges. Additionally, the GNF funds help families with their past-due rent when a one-time emergency pushes them off track. This financial assistance is critical to maintaining their stability and preventing homelessness. It is also used to secure a safe place for homeless individuals and families by assisting with down payments that can be a significant barrier to housing.
