Earlier this week, BedMart Mattress Superstores donated 70 brand-new Tempur-Pedic mattresses with mattress protectors from GBS Enterprises to the Community Clearinghouse. The donation is valued at more than $70,000 and will benefit many vulnerable individuals and families on Oahu.
Even before staff from Helping Hands Hawaii and BedMart could transport all of the inventory from the BedMart showroom to the Community Clearinghouse, several of the mattresses and mattress protectors were making their way to new homes with our clients!
“Many of our families struggle with poverty and find it difficult to pay for their basic necessities every month, like rent, utilities and food,” said Jan M. Harada, president and CEO of Helping Hands Hawaii. “For them, including those who are transitioning from homelessness to housing, sleeping on a bed is a luxury that they cannot afford. We are so grateful to the team at BedMart for reaching out to help local families in need.”
The Community Clearinghouse provides income-eligible individuals and families with access to free basic necessities and serves approximately 20,000 individuals a year through all of its programs. Some of the items in highest demand by our consumer are beds and other basic household materials.
Mahalo to BedMart owners Steven, Sherry and Elana Stone and their staff for this donation! Your commitment to helping the community will truly improve the lives of many people in the greatest need.
